Background
Mark is Professor of Civil Engineering at The University of Western Australia and is the Director of The Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems, an internationally leading research group that focuses on offshore geotechnics and the performance of foundation and anchoring systems. Mark is also the Academic Leader of the recently established CSIRO Flagship Cluster entitled “Subsea pipelines for reliable and environmentally safe development of ocean hydrocarbon resources”. This $11 million research endeavour unites 16 academics from 6 Universities and the CSIRO in a collaborative effort to find engineering design solutions for the new frontier of Australia’s deepwater pipelines. Mark was an intern at the World Commission on Dams in Cape Town, a Stipendiary Lecture at Brasenose College, University of Oxford and has worked for Ove Arup and Partners in Brisbane, Australia. Mark has provided consultant work to BP, Boreas Cosultants, Fugro Engineers, Keppel Offshore and Marine Ltd and the Department of Trade and Industry, UK.
